Mount Pleasant Yacht Club

Welcome to our website, designed for both members and people interested in sailing in a safe, friendly environment.

We have an active Learn to Sail programme for both Juniors and Adults, a Coaching programme for advanced learners, and Club racing most weekends during the summer. Estuary Club series are held in conjunction with Christchurch and Pleasant Point clubs.

The Club waters are the Avon-Heathcote Estuary, Ihutai, in Christchurch.  The Clubhouse is located just over the Ferrymead Bridge heading towards Sumner.

This is the easiest club in Canterbury for launching and retrieving boats with plenty of ramps and wide shallows.

Contact Phil or Marion Galloway for information about membership, about Ngaire Jesson the facilities, or one of our Club Officers for other matters

Woo-hoo!

Great sailing today! Three and a half hours on just a 2.2 metre tide, with six short-course races. See the photo gallery and check out this video of the last finish!

Learn to Sail Update

Junior Learn to Sail is starting up again for those of you who had a truncated season last year. If you haven’t received information from Keith Hay please get in touch with him ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

We are also starting junior coaching again, targeting initially Green Fleet children and those coming out of learn to sail (but keen to organise things for open fleet too!) The plan is to run coaching sessions on Sundays, and we can do some mid-week sessions over the Holidays too. Please get in contact with Hamish McGowan ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ), to confirm your interest.

While we use coaches, some parental help and support is needed on and off the water.

The Adult Learn to sail program will recommence on 4 February. Please register with Ngaire Jesson on 382 0129 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Sailing Programme

Tides are high tide at Lyttelton plus 30 minutes, which is approximately high tide at the Club, and are adjusted for Daylight Saving. Start times are shown for the first race, and may be staggered depending on the number of boats in each class. The Race Officer may adjust start times on the day.
